Motor Compartement De-airing

In the factory configuration, the hose for the de-airing through floor unit is forcing the de-airing hose from the gearbox shield to bent around it. This creates two issues. The de-airing through the car wing can not find a clean path from the heat source to the outlet, thus the suction by underpressure (created by the airflow in the car wiing) can not take full effect. On the other hand this hose is also blocking a clean airflow into the outlet to the floor unit. Additionally the inlet into the downward floor looks a bit fiddly. Initially we couldn't believe that Renault has created such a solution, but spying into other R5T2s showed that this is really what they had come up with.

The EMO Approach

The rational behind our solution is:
  • the airflow to the car wing is 'passive' only, while the downward de-airing is supported by an active went, thus the 'passive' path should be as clean/direct as possible.
  • the de-airing through the floor unit should be positioned such that as much as possible hot air can flow into it without being hindered.

We decided to construct a mount that positions the downward hose further away from the wheelhouse. The mount must allow the other hose to cross it without being bent or any form of crumpling. For the mount, which is to be fixed at the wheelhouse, we decided to drill a second hole into the same and set a rivet nut such that we have two mounting points. This gives the whole construction a better stability than with only using the single original one for the hose's bracket.
